Amazon’s Alexa: Did you know that Amazon, a shopping app, has provided each of us with a personal assistant? Her name is Alexa, and here’s what you must know about the intelligent robot.
Alexa is a programmed smart assistant who knows no boundaries of time or knowledge and can get you the information you need hands-free. Amazon Lab 126 created Alexa to help with several things. But how does Amazon’s Alexa understand the human language if it isn’t a human?
It is possible using the innovative technology developed by the creators of Artificial Intelligence. This technology is called voice recognition. It identifies the sound of every letter and matches it with its program to find out what you are saying. This technology also uses pre-recorded sounds to talk back to you (Also called the Talkback feature).
Alexa’s intellect is not limited to her program, though. The smart assistant is called smart because it browses the answers through the ever-growing world of the internet and can bring new facts to you.
It took around 10,000 people and 100,000 hours of chats to train this assistant to speak to us. The technological marvel supports a bunch of activities apart from talking to you. Here’s what Alexa can do:
1. Print a colouring book
When your device is connected to your printer on the same network, Alexa can print you anything, be it a printing book, sci-fi comic, and more.
2. Start a kid’s quiz
Alexa has some unique features like a quiz for children ranging from easy to moderate in difficulty level. To the intelligent tech, all you need to say is ‘Alexa, start the Kid’s Quiz’.
3. Curios much?
Just say ‘Alexa, open curiosity,’ and the smart assistant would open a wide variety of fun facts for you, satisfying a tween’s best friend, their curiosity.
4. Play Games and watch movies
Not just educational stuff, but Alexa can be the buddy who opens fun games for you. You can watch movies and listen to your favourite songs with this technology. The most popular games from Alexa are ‘Bamboo Math‘ and ‘Escape the room.’
5. Here’s your homework helper
Do you have questions in the middle of your homework? The program explores the internet and can bring back the answers to your questions within seconds.
6. Hear a joke or even a tongue twister
Are you bored and don’t know what to do? Alexa can tell you jokes to keep you entertained. A joke from Alexa, “What has eight wheels and flies? A garbage truck.” You can also find some new tongue twisters to keep you busy – “I saw Susie sitting in a shoeshine shop, where she sits she shines, and where she shines, she sits.”
7. Exercise and have fun!
If you have run out of things to do with your younger sisters and brothers – we have Alexa to the rescue. Alexa’s ‘Animal Workout’ guides children to imagine that they are animals and then directs them to do a specific activity. While you are at it, the instructor shares fun facts about each animal.
Amazon’s Alexa can also conduct a voice interaction, play music, create to-do lists, put you to sleep with bedtime stories and wake you up on time by setting alarms. It can stream podcasts, play audiobooks, and also get to know about the weather, traffic, and other real-time information, such as news. Alexa can also control several smart devices.
