Let’s talk about someone who knows everything, is older than us, and when in doubt, we say, “Search it on….” Google, that’s right.
Google has been around for 22 years and is one of the most preferred search engines on the Internet. Hmm… Search engine? What is a Search Engine?
Well, the search engine is a program that searches the World Wide Web, also known as WWW, to find you the available results. Suppose you search, ‘Coding for beginners.’ Then the search engine will get you all the web pages that mention the words, ‘coding for beginners.’
The search engine also ranks the web pages according to their popularity among other internet users. Search engines like Bing etc., also do a similar job. But Google has been there for a long time. So, let’s get to know the story of the incredible search engine.
Story of Google
Google was the brainchild of two students like you and me. They were Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who met on their college campus at Stanford University. They both loved math and were fond of understanding the concepts of the Internet. Even though the Internet is quite known today, the Internet was a new thing back then.
So, the two friends became partners and started a search engine called Backrub which later renamed Google. The founders created the company to organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible and helpful.
And then, in a few years, the company caught the attention of investors from Silicon Valley. In the following years, the company expanded rapidly. They were hiring engineers, building a sales team, etc. The company also introduced their first company dog, Yoshka.
Further, the company sky-rocketed as it outgrew the garage and eventually moved to its current headquarters (aka the Googleplex) in Mountain View, California. The spirit of doing things differently made a move. So did Yoshka. The company celebrates its birthday on September 27 every year, and that’s the birthday story of Google.
The tech giant also has a smart assistant available free of cost. Find out here.
